About Carolyn & Adria

Carolyn’s love of cooking goes back to her childhood in Montana, when she cooked meals and baked desserts  for her family at every opportunity. After obtaining a degree in French and Spanish, Carolyn married and moved to Texas, and was a stay-at-home mom with two daughters. With an ever-growing interest in food, she took numerous cooking courses in Texas, North Carolina, Paris, and New York. She became known for throwing elaborate Valentine parties, and eventually started doing private catering for friends. Having an unfulfilled desire to have her own business, it was serendipity when daughter Adria decided to move back to Houston and pursue the same culinary dream.

Growing up in a family that loved and appreciated great food, it was only natural for Adria to follow in her mother's footsteps.  Adria loved spending time in the kitchen with her mother and always longed for excuses to bake or cook for friends and family. With degrees in classical music and arts administration, Adria began her career working for professional orchestras and summer music festivals. Then in 2008, after spending several years in Houston, she and her husband moved to New York. She continued to work in arts administration, while taking courses in pastry and exploring many wonderful culinary experiences in New York. Constantly inspired by New York's artisan chefs and bakers, Adria was fascinated with the local food culture and realized she needed to pursue a food career. It was only natural for this passion to manifest into a business with her mother.   In Summer 2011, the couple and their new baby daughter moved back to Houston to begin their new venture.

This mother/daughter 'duet' combined their talents to create Duet: Desserts and Catering to share their love of food with others.
